Veterinary Care

The Cheetah SSP recommends each animal care facility has a comprehensive veterinary program to manage the cheetah in their care. Preventative care includes daily observations by qualified animal care staff, weight monitoring, routine physical examinations including blood and fecal testing, dental examinations, vaccinations and parasite treatment as needed. The Felid Taxonomy Advisory Group (TAG) has developed recommendations for a preventative medical program for Felid species, including cheetah. These recommendations were updated in 2018.
